For our latest project, Research Practices, we were to choose two phrases from our Contextual Studies work & go on to develop them into ideas.

The two I chose were Subcultural Style & Fashion, Film & Media.

For initial research, I developed the photographs which I took when I was in Berlin on my fish eye camera of local graffiti as well as cool hunting images.

After developing some initial ideas & then design development, I was desperate to look into my other chosen phrase, Fashion, Film & Media.

When I looked up the definition of film, it spoke of a series of animated images being generated. I looked into what this could be interpreted as & immediately thought of tattoos on the body. The moving body is covered by designs & portraits creating its own sequence.

I began taking photographs around Leeds of men who had tattoos over their body. I would later develop these initial photographs of tattoos into a possible print for fabric to be used on my garment.

DAY TEN AT THE HUNGER

Unfortunately my two weeks as a Fashion Intern at The Hunger magazine has come to end. I have loved every moment of my placement, when there were busy spells & then a lot quieter. I am desperate to return to help out at the magazine over summer, it is so fascinating being able to watch Rankin work away in the studio.

The launch party for the magazine is being held at Rankin’s studio on the 10th where each person invited will receive their own copy of Issue Two, hundreds arrived in boxes today in time to be handed out at the event. I especially enjoyed looking through the latest issue of the magazine before it has been released to go on sale & today I got a glance at the hard back version of Issue Two which I think I am going to buy, it is only £10! And possibly paper back as well seeing as I do love Rob Sheehan.

Sadly since I’ve been here, I haven’t heard Rankin shout “TIME IS MONEY PEOPLE!” which is a phrase I’m desperate to hear in real life & not in films!

A test shoot for Dove is currently going on in the studio & Rankin has returned from Antwerp & is wearing a “Ranker” t-shirt!

I have been so lucky to have The Hunger as my work placement, it was extremely hard to find one & even to get a reply from magazines. I just hope that I am able to return, I am so eager to help out on a shoot!

DAY NINE AT THE HUNGER

This morning I had the chance of finally going to Westfield shopping centre in Shepard’s Bush. I had one last return from the possible shoot last week to Net-A-Porter, their office was on the mezzanine in the shopping centre.

Once I returned to the studio, Joseph asked me to type up the debate we attended at The Shwop Lab last night for the Fashion Team blog.

The Hunger have started a count down to the release of Issue 2 of the magazine, releasing teasers which last no longer than 15 seconds which is definitely creating a hype around the launch!
